How to Use This Board
Load or Add Tools
Start with a preset category like Garden or Woodworking, then add your own. Each tool needs a name, category, and condition. The condition field helps your group flag items that need repair before someone borrows them.
Check Out Tools
When someone takes a tool, click "Check Out" on that row. Enter their name and the date. The row turns amber so it is easy to scan. This takes about five seconds and saves a lot of arguments later.
Log Returns
When the tool comes back, click "Return." Update the condition if something changed. If a tool came back damaged, note it now so the next person knows.
Print & Share
Print the board and hang it near the door. The QR code lets anyone with a phone check the current status. Use the share link to send the board by text or email.
Common Mistakes
- Not logging returns. The board only works if people click "Return." Make it a habit: grab tool, check out, bring back, log return.
- Skipping condition notes. A quick note like "blade dull" or "battery weak" saves the next person time and frustration.
- Forgetting to export. Your data lives in one browser. Export a JSON backup after each session so you do not lose your list.
- Using vague names. "Drill" could mean anything. Write "18V Cordless Drill" or "1/2" Hammer Drill" so there is no confusion.
Assumptions & Limits
- Data is stored in your browser only. No account, no server, no cloud.
- Clearing browser data erases your inventory. Export often.
- The share link is a snapshot. It does not sync between devices.
- For live multi-person use, one person should manage the board and share updated printouts.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can multiple people update at once?
- Not live. One person manages the board. Others can view the shared link or printed copy.
- What if I delete a tool by accident?
- There is no undo. Export your inventory regularly so you can re-import if needed.
- Does this work on a phone?
- Yes. The table and forms work on any device. Printing works best from a computer.
- Is my data private?
- Yes. Nothing leaves your browser unless you share the link or export a file.
